clear coat on 89 Carrera has failed
The clear coat on my 1989 Carrera is bad and shows cracks and streaks or lines. The underlying silver paint is good and from a short distance away you can't tell that there is a problem.
Does anyone know of a wax I can use to cover the clear coat, filling in the grooves so that I don't have to repaint the car? Trying to keep everything original.

Sad to say you should just sell the car......to me! Probably the easiest fix would be to have a professional color sand the car to remove the failing clear coat and then just polish it. Or, sell me the car....

once the clear fails your pretty much screwed !
the fix is to strip the failing clear and refinish sorry to say waxing will do nothing to protect the base coat or better yet and more important the metal under the finish . the primers and base coats will not hold out moisture and protect the metal from rusting only the clear or top coats do that . i think you should sell the car to me ! |

You guys are all so generous. As you can see from my signature block this is my fourth Porsche and if I have learned anything: I should have never sold any of them.
Sounds like I will end up painting the car. Trying to keep it all original. Live out where there are bad roads and pickup trucks dominate. Painting will just confine her to the garage even more to protect the paint.
