bumper early vs late

I am repainting my 71 911T and the car currently has a fiberglass bumper which I would like to replace with a standard steel bumper.
I purchased a new bumper from a swap and was told it was 69 to 73 but the mounting bolts have a horizontal layout and the brackets on the fiberglas appear to be vertical.
If this bumper is pre 69 is it just a case of finding pre 69 bumper bracket to make it fit? and are the size and style exatly the same?

Anyone have any experience with these?
pictures of the 2 types follow. I'm starting to think the vertical are correct and will soon have an early bumper for sale.

You are correct you need the vertical as in top pic for your 71 , the one in bottom pic is for 65-68 SWB cars. The mounting method is completly different and there are no parts out there I'm aware of to make the swap. I imagine you COULD make it work but not W/O a lot of grief. Sell it and purchase the correct bumper.

Yea, I kind of saw that coming. I really don't like the fiberglass "S" spoiler bumper but may have to reinstall and deal with the steel valence later.
Thanks

If you locate the correct one Larry no big deal. You WILL need 2 'L' brackets to install. If you find one W/O brackets I probably have a couple I will send you if they do not come with bumper.
