1968 911 sunroof cables

I am replacing my sunroof cables with the 964 models and have modified them by filing down the guide piece and removing the felt but the cables do not move as freely as I would like through the pipeholders (the pipes that guide the cables through the transmission gear) I have the pipeholder off and tried just running the cables back and forth many times. Tried to lubricate with powdered graphite and then lithium grease but that didn't help. The pipeholder is in good condition, is not bent or crimped. Any suggestion how I can get these new cables to slide freely in the pipeholder?

Pardon my asking the obvious, but have you compared/measured the cable sizes with the originals? There may be a bottleneck somewhere in the system that the originals fit through with more ease than the newer pieces.
