Roll cage plates

Hi,

I bought a used Safety Devices cage and I need to make the mounting plates that I will weld to the body.
What kind of steel gauge would you use for this ?

If it's too thick I won't be able to shape them myself, if it's too thin they'll be useless.

Anybody knows how thick the original plates are ?

Regards,

-Guillaume

I don't have my car near me, but the mounting plates are pretty substantial. You might try contacting Safety Devices and see if they can send you some.

When I get my car back (hopefully this weekend) I can measure the thickness of the plates for you if you'd like.

I tried contacting them (Stable energies and safety devices) by email , then by phone, with no luck.
I'll try again, it would make sense to sell the plates alone for those bolt-in cages. The plates can be used only once.

But I'd be happy to get some measures, just in case...

Thanks,

-Guillaume

plate thickness

Here you go.. Plates are apx 1/8" or 3 mm thick. I like the cage, it fit into my 67 easily with no clearance problems. There are plates welded in four of the six mounting points. the rear most mounts in the wheel wells are drilled thru and backed by a still 5mm plate on the back side. let me know if you need more info..

I just looked at that last photo, I didn't do such a good job with the calipers..
