Headlight bucket repair ideas

I'm weighing different ideas for repairing some fender rust below my headlight buckets that are history. One idea is to weld in a new clean fender area a couple inches back from the bucket perimeter and then install new buckets. My question is whether later 74-89 fenders have the same shape around the headlights as my 71 fender?

Thanks,

There are only minor differnces between the two but nothing that would prevent you from using the later buckets. Unless you're concerned about originality.
