964 front+rear window seals in 86' 930...

I have seen this done before and I am about to remove the windows from my car for a full paint job. Seeing as the original seals will come apart when I remove them, I would like to install newer style seals. My question is: will 964 front and rear window seals work in the 1986' 930 body with 1986 glass? My car has the antenna in the windshield so I think that it is the same as the 1989-1994 glass but am unsure. Any advice from someone who has done it before would be hugely appreciated.

When you get the glass out of your 930, measure the pinch-weld flange. If it is 10mm, you may have to stay with the early weather seal. If it measures 15mm, you can use the later (without trim) 964 weather seal.

Looking up the weather seal part numbers for your '86 in PET says it uses the early weather seal, with the trim. 911.541.225.00 for the windshield seal and 911.545.225.00 for the rear glass seal.

It wasn't until '89 that the factory converted over to a 15mm pinch-weld flange and the weather seal without the trim. Thus the 964 part number for the weather seal 964.541.225.00 for a 964 windshield 964.541.011.00 tinted, without the green upper.

Other threads talk about the same thing and I believe you might be able to use 964 weather seal along with 964 glass on the early 10mm flange, but am not certain it will seal properly.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much- that does help,
Unfortunately, now that I understand that the windscreens have to be replaced in order for the seals to work, I am not going to attempt it. I am not going to take the windows out either because i dont want to risk damaging the seals and have to buy the old clunky ones again (I think the ones with the trim are more expensive than the 964s...)

Now thats out of the question- any one have any creative ways of lifting the window seals up enough so I can eclipse a tape line? I had an idea of using a small diameter rope tucked under the seal to hold it up but want someone with experience to chime in as I never tried it.
