Rechroming

I purchased some chrome bumperettes recently from a fellow Pelican. They arrived yesterday and I found one of them has a blemish (not an extremely deep scratch). Question: Will rechroming cover up scratches or will the bumperette required prep (grinding) to even out the scratch prior to chroming? I've never had to chrome anything, so I was not sure if the process will just coverup blemishes or if more prep work is required. Thanks in advance for your comments. SmileWavy

Chrome won't cover scratches it will require re finishing/ polishing before chrome is applied.

Good chrome is a three layer product. Someone more knowledgeable will hopefully chime in as i'm no expert.

Take it to a chrome shop, have them remove the chrome.

Bring it home, repair the piece with lead solder - or have someone do it - then have it rechromed.

Dont sand off the chrome. The dust is toxic.

Thanks. I am going to just take the bumperettes down to a chrome shop and see what they think. The scratch is not very deep, so I don't think it is going to be a big issue.
