Quick question about paint gun air pressure

A little confused about what psi I'm actually using.

I have a Sears 33Gal compressor and a Devilbiss 670 gun using 5/16 ID hose. The Devilbiss directions call for ~30 psi for best results. 30psi where and when? In other words is it 30psi on the regulator before I pull the trigger? Or is it 30psi at the regulator with the trigger down and spraying paint?

I ask because I'm having issues with laying paint down and I feel it may be excessive pressure. Thanks.

that would be 30PSI with the trigger pulled . that should be about 10 to 12 psi at the fluid tip and air cap . one big thing with using HVLP you also need all HVLP air lines and fitting right from your air supply . just one none HVLP part that restricts air flow from the 1/4th ID hose and fitting size will not let the gun spray corrctly . one tip on how i ajust my guns . i turn the needle screw all the way out . them pull the trigger all the way in. turn the needle screw back in so it just starts to move the trigger off the handle .thats it . this is what works best for me whan it comes to the guns ajustment . then i like a 50% pattern over lap and i have a slow spraying hand speed . i lay it down just about the way i want it to look . with little to no material flow out . that is were the hardeners and reducers come in to play . so ajust that as needed .
