Targa Top wind noise
If you have Targa top wind noise it is 98% one the following two or both. I am in the Targa top restoration business and this we, who know why, my phone has been ringing off the hook with wind noise questions.
1.The top reinforcement is worn out under the vinyl. There is no strength in the top for the reinforcement has crumbled and stretched. This is what the top vinyl is attached to but now the vinyl releases and the beading stands up. 2. The wrong over the windshield seal was installed sometime during the last 12 years. The top sits to high maybe 1/4" to 3/8" and vent widows appear too low. If this seal was replaced you can be almost certain it is wrong. What the factory started doing and everyone else followed suit since 1995 is put a 90-94 seal in a 70-89 bag. e mail or call for clarification. carsinc@comcast.net 609 298 2277 dan

Targa top wind noise
There are two basic cause of wind noise and water leaks in a Targa. It is quite simple to tell which from which.
1. When the inner reinforcement layers in side a top get old more than 15 years the material starts to break down and deteriorate. This then allows the vinyl on the top to pull away for it is only attached to the under side. The beading in the front and rear start point upward and give the appearance that the top is too short. In truth because of the designation of the reinforcement it is. The fix a three stage restoration. 2. Wrong over the top of windshield seal. If the seal has been replace since 1995 it is the incorrect seal. It makes the top sit up to high in the front and can easily be seen. This leads to difficult latching, latch breaking and top fly offs. I presently carry the correct seal. Even the dealer has the wrong one. The right part# will be on the bag but what is inside is a 90-94 seal which to big for 89-70 Targa's. PS You could have both problems. Call or e me for more info 609 2982277 carsinc@comcast.net Dan

Listen to Dan and buy his seal. These are the closest thing to the original seal that were sold for the earlier Targas. Don't waste your time buying the superseded Porsche part. It requires cutting and even after the cutting you lose the proper two flaps in the front to make it wind and water resistant.
If the front seal does't do it then pack up your top and ship it to Dan. I would give him your dimensions from front to rear of the distance between the windshield and rear bar. Good luck |

The two major sign the wrong seal has been installed are Top sits up 1/4" to high for the hole length of top. Second the latches are very difficult to lock. Leads to latch and handle breaking.
