How do I make a splitter?

Can someone please tell me how to make an aluminum splitter for my RS front bumper?

Thanks

i have made god knows how many splitters . but i would not want one out of aluminum . then do you want a splitter for looks or one that realy works ?

One that really works. I have already closed up the horns and unused brake cooling inlets. I am getting lift in the front at speed.

I have a nice one made out of plastic.
Not too expensive.
And comes in two pieces in case you wreck one side.
Easy to replace half.
TRE Motorsports made it for me....

Is that the TRE '73 911 RS F Splitter?

when it comes to spliters there are many things to look at . a real spliter is more than just putting a flat peace of some thing sticking out from the bottom of the bumper . doing a proper spliter . you have to look at how much high pressure area on the top side to how much low pressure there will be on the under side . how high is the spliter off the ground to how much vertical frontal area there is . that will determine how far out the spliter will need to be sticking out from the front of the car . will dive planes (canards )be added or used as well ? when the car is at speed is the nose lifting or is the cars rear wing making the ass end squat ? is the front of the car getting some wiggle (moving right and left) ? if so then verticl end plates may need to be added to the spliter . its all about laminer flow most spliters out there don't realy work all that well and there are some that do more harm than good .

It is definitely the nose lifting. I am getting a little wiggle also. Hanging around with a 962 guy that has off the charts downforce isn't helping me either. I keep looking at the rear of my car wondering how I can get a diffuser under there also.

962porsche 09-05-2010 08:52 AM

by today standerds my 962 does not have much downforce . a rear diffuser on a 911 body ? it would have to stick out about 3 to 4 feet from the back of the car and the car would have to have a smooth belly pan for it to work right . a rear diffuser realy only works on a tunnel car or a flat bottom car . when there added to a street car that has bead rolls in the floor pan it cuts down there efficiency to less than half making them point less .

I know that the diffuser would be impossible but it is fun to think about it. The problem that I have is that I want to keep the RS look. If I create too much front downforce then I am going to put a rear wing on it. So I was looking to see if an RS guy had found the right mix. Are you going to Fairfield next week?

use a product called "Allumilite" which is basically used for sign boards.

here is a writeup:

never heard of "Allumilite" before. i like the TRE Motorsports splitter, wonder if there is any thing special w/ the plastic they use.

If I DIY,ed a splitter again. It would have 2 have turn buckle adjusters for basic stability.

I made my splitter from aluminum. Tried first with Kevlar/fiberglass and it just warps. It also doubles are a support for the front oil cooler :D
