The heater tubes did change sometime after '66
In this thread you can see how he made new heater tubes for a '69 which look different from what was in my '66 912 Page1, and 4 show what he did. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/paint-bodywork-discussion-forum/545166-restoration-my-69-911-a.html Here's a shot of what the inside of my rockers looked like: ![]() Since I closed up the footwell heater with the rollcage mounting plate, I just made a new tube out of some thin galvanized (24-26ga) ducting from a house. Wrapped it around a piece of 2" pipe, folded the lip over, and did a bunch of spot welds. I fit it over both ends of the original pipe where I cut, and crimped it down tight with a hose clamp. I put a couple spot welds on the rear section to hold it in place, then coated the joint with seam sealer. I couldn't get my welding tip close enough to the front attachment, so I just tightened the hose clamp, left it in there, and then coated that area with seam sealer. It's not pretty, but you won't see it. ![]()

It took me forever to get all the spot welds drilled out around the footwell, thing, which is part of the tube. Probably easier to just patch sections if you have holes. If you have a '66 it's probably not leaking from the tube. It's probably leaking from the bottom corner of the torsion tube area. I had a hole right into the heat tube in that area on my '66, on both sides (low spot that isn't painted, heated air = moisture)
![]() That is the inside of the heat tube you can see in that picture. You won't have much heat at all if there is a hole in that corner. The heat tube inside my rocker, was surface rust, and looked pretty bad, but I cut it out anyway so I could clean up the inner rocker area better.
