Help for pealing clear coat
Guys,
The clear coat on an older repaint (over non-metallic guards red) is pealing - mostly on the horizontal surfaces. I don't have the money (or motivation) right now to do a total repaint, which is obviously the correct way to go. So I'm looking for an alternative. I'm thinking along the lines of removing the pealing areas and polishing everything back to a nice gloss. The problem is - how do I remove the bad areas of clear coat without compromising the underlying color coat? Thanks in advance for your help, Dave 1969 (waiting for a repaint) |

Dave-
It is not possible to remove the clear without effecting the base. If it is a small area - you might try feathering the edges of the clear with 400 grit and reapplying clear and then wet sand and buff. However - the original clear under the new will continue to separate from the original base and you have the same problem again - as well as a pretty wavy panel unless you have it done by a real pro. My best advise - live with it until you can get the car stripped and repainted. Good Luck- |
