Can it be painted? I would like to go from black to red (outside only).

I know some people will roll their eyes but I redid an engine some years ago and used Krylon paint straight from the can for the shroud. I can't remember the color code but it was a real close match. I had the engine for a few years prior to selling it. The paint never peeled and looked factory. I did prep the shroud very well prior to painting.

Thanks Rich
You can almost feel the air movement from all the Lol...I don't have the matching problem. I'll check with a local paint shop where I know the co-owner. I'll let you know if she does a face. How did you prep, sanding or just cleaning? Cheers J.J.

As I recall I just lightly sanded the shroud an cleaned it with some wax & grease remover. I think the important thing is that you sand it to give the paint something to grab onto and of course cleanliness is probably the most important.

JJ911SC,
Make sure you clean and degrease it top and bottom well before you scuff. Grease is your enemy on that part. There are lots of microscopic nooks and crannies to catch grease and dirty. When you think you have it good and clean do it one more time. Lightly scuff the surface, 3M green pad or 200 wet dry paper should do the trick. |

Thanks Guys
If I remember correctly from my Navy days, we prep for 6 days and painted on the 7th day.

I have used Krylon's Banner Red for two shrouds. The color and paint was recommended by Henry Schmidt at Supertech somewhere on this board. I found the paint and the color to both be perfect.
