How best to clean lip of 87 Carr. wheels?

I've read you are not supposed to use something that shines metal or is that for the early 911's with anodized finish. I'm just referring to the polished 3" lip
Thanks

If they are anodized finish I use wd-40 and wipe them down.I had some stain`s and the wd-40 hide`s them.
