Fix UR rust spots.... $99.95 anyspot. Results inside!

No this isn't an ad. But I figured I should "break bread" over here with posting stuff on our project (We have a thread over on Rennlist for the entire build.)

We have a 71 targa and my son, Clayton (12) is working on sanding the doors (his project piece). Well after giving him a little guidance on how to handle the sander I noticed the multiple colors that we were seeing on the door, changed at the front bottom corner. After grinding out lots of bondo and a tacky (no pun intended) patch tack welded on top of the door we found significant rust that migrated and made the bottom corrode out. We didn't get a chance to remove the rusted section but I did get most of the cut on it out. It's a week day today so we ran out of time.... Till the weekend. We are still on the fence if we need to call time on this door. Repairing a door isn't like repairing the car, we might just want to get another.....

This repair does make me feel that I'm actually doing a half decent job on my repairs!

So here's why you make sure you get all the rust out before repairing.

Hmmm what's up with all the bondo? (Forrest Gump voice) "Oh Nooooooo Jenny.... Oh no that's not good".

Grinding out the tack welds...

The rust underneath

Here you can see how the rust filled the patch job right up to the patch edges

The rust partially cut out, the whistle rang and we had to stop the job.

Thanks for the offer! We're in Temecula CA, and we are going to see if the door is repairable, at least take a stab at it... Worst case, is one of your doors a passenger side targa door? And what would you need to part ways with the door if available?
