Paint Panel Orientation

Hi all, another for the pros...

I'm spraying single stage, non-metalic solid blue. Do I need to spray the panels the way they hang (like you would with metallics), or can I do myself a favour and paint doors laying flat?

Cheers

john you can lay the panels flat . there is no metalic flakes that need to lay a certain way . its really only a coarse flake metalic that should be hing the same way it would be on the car . its also the shape or cut if the flake that has to do with the way the flake will lay down .

Thanks, I thought that was the case. I've still go to do the rear quarters in a vertical position, but doing as much as I can flat will limit my goof ups ;)

laying the panel flat will give a bigger area for dust to lay on to . i hang all my panels from the sealing of my spray booth . things like doors i then can spray the inside and out side at the same time . it then cuts down on masking off the inside of the door and shooting the out side . the way you want to do it is in no way wrong ! but there is also the texture (orange peel ) when you lay a panel flat and spray it the top coats will lay down because you can spray more product on it and it can't run . were on the qtr's you can't lay them flat so you will get more texture on them . with a car like your doing its not a big deal because i'm sure your going to color sand the car so it like glass . but when it comes to matching the OE finish like on a new porsche that has some peel to the finish . if what you spray is to smooth it will look repainted . also when we get a job that the customer is looking for a repaint that he wants to look like its the oe finish we want to have just a little peel to the finish like it has from porsche .
