Could someone recommend appropriate paint to use on the 911 Targa top frame.

would you be talking about the out side part of the targa bar ? if so then 22 line black mixxed semi gloss . your glasurit jobber will have the black gloss chips to look at . they will rang from totaly flat to almost a total gloss . they can mix what you need at the store in the gloss you want . when you spray it . it will look like to much gloss from what the chip looked like but when it cures after a day or so it will lose its gloss and then look like the gloss on the color chip . the trick to matching what the gloss is in a chip is do not force dry it the longer it takes to dry the better it will match the chip you picked . also use a med or slow hardener and reducer . don't buy a fast hardener and reducer because when it drys it will look to glossy .

I'm actually asking about the frame for the targa top that comes off the car. The black frame needs to be painted. A minor project. Would something like a rustoleum work on this.

Your reply about the targa bar is helpful as well. That also could use paint.

I really like the Rustoleum "Professional - High Performance Enamel" It sprays nicely and lays down beautifully. I used it for the fiberglass shroud on my engine cover and it had held up great. No dulling, etc. Resilient as well. My top outside rails are much glossier than the main bar so I would go to town with gloss black. For the inside frame parts that are exposed, see if the Rustoleum comes in satin. May be a better look. Your call.

I did my targa bar as 962 recommends but I got a little extra of the "flattener" to spray some test patterns at home and dull the paint down to where I was happy with it. You can see my top in this link.

Oops - wrong link - here is the one I meant to post

Master is one of the best paint that is very good for the painting. I used the master paint and really got good results in our house and offices..

My 86 targa bar (outside rollbar) is the same sheen as the car, gloss black. I don't think that is factory?
I believe it should be matte or satin??
Does anyone have the answer to the original finish?
Thanks!
