Targa to a fixed head
I am new to this site and hope this post won't anger anybody. I recently purchased a 1974 Targa 2.7. It has a soft window conversion and a pearl that changes to a blue hue under certain light. Also has Ruf speedlines that are chrome which is peeling off. Has a steel wide-body conversion that looks good but needs a little help. Looks like it was on a Pimp my Porsche episode. The question I have is can I attach a coupe roof to this car. I found a good donor candidate and was wondering if this has ever been attempted?

Welcome Britcars
It's certainly been done before and there a couple of good threads (use the search button and try a few key words like "targa to coupe"). The pillars have complicated and intricate folds/double layers that you cannot entirely weld. So you'd need to think about how you'd strengthen it or include a roll cage. Another option is to source a factory hard top (yes Porsche made one). They are relatively rare, but they follow the coupe profile perfectly and you can't tell from 10 feet away. They do pop up for sale occassionally.

Thanks for the reply Fishcop!
I never new they made a hard top for this year car. If I cut the targa roll bar off, will I have to reinforce in other areas? I will search for threads and thank you for the welcome! |
