Best Paint for 73 E
Whats the best paint to use on a 73 E?
Modern 2 stage with clear coat? old school 1 stage with no clear coat? I drive the car most days when it is nice out (approx 10K mi per year) and it is in nearly mint condition. Original color was Baja Red but was painted Guards Red (which I like better) 20 years ago. Thanks, Chris 73 911 E Long hood |

Educate me 962porsche. What is VOC?
I thought single stage was just a coat of paint. I thought two stage was paint and clear coat Aren't all modern cars painted in a two stage? or is this for EPA reasons. Chris |

VOC stands for volatile organic compounds . to make it quick and simple VAPORS .
I NEVER LIKE THE SAYING OLD SCHOOL ! it's way over used ! a single stage finish is just that the color is the top coat . a base /clear finish uses the clear as it's top coat . one is realy no better than the other . no not all car today are painted in base clear finishes . how ever there are many more cars that are . it has to do with cost more than the finish being better . it's mush cheapper for a car maker to spray two very thin coats of clear over there color coat than it is to use higher cost color coats . to cut cost even more some car maker use what is called under hood colors for the iner panels of there cars . just open the hood on a nissan or toyota . EPA mandates low VOC sprayables . this is why states are changing to waterborn color coats . not because it's a much better finish just because there are much less VOC's . |
