Repaint Questions

Hello Pelicans,

I am currently looking at purchasing a Carrera that has had a respray (not the top or bonnet) which looks nice but up close she has flaws.

There is clear coat that hasn't adhered to the body in some very tight but noticeable spots. There is also too much paint along some edges and looks rough, not smooth at all. There is also some orange peel but nothing too bad. Car is just lovely otherwise.

The question is what if anything at all can be done ? I was told that it can all be wet sanded to a very nice finish but I am not so sure and I am not an expert by any means.

My biggest worry is that it will only get worse and I need to consider my options before I make a decision.

Thank you all in advance for your help.

Cheers !

Paint Questions

I am being told by the mechanic that is selling the car on behalf of his customer. He said that he has an excellent paint guy that can sort out 85% of the issues.

I have some pix but the resolution is iffy, so too hard to tell.

Basically too much paint on the edges and the clear coat is lifting in tiny spots along the rails. Cant tell from 10 feet but up close it's noticeable.

I'd hate to buy the car & then have to spend X amount getting her repainted if the problem areas aren't fixable.

Here is a pic of the rough paint along one edge. There are more areas like this.

I do not have any pix worth looking at regarding the lifting of the clear coat.

Thanks,

any lifting finish (pealing) will have to be refinished .
as for that on the edge i will bet he will brake thru just from color sanding the finish before he even gets to try and hit it with a buffer .

Looks like it's puddling of the urethane clear that perhaps didn't "self-level" because it didn't adhere well to what's beneath it, causing it to draw back... Did the owner just have a new coat of clear shot simply to improve the shine prior to trying to sell the car? If so, then it looks like poor prep work. Color sanding with 1200+ may not be aggressive enough to cut the high spots, and blocking it with 500 and working upwards may be too aggressive if there's only a thin layer of clear on the low spots.
