Refinishing Mauled Fuchs

Hi guys,
Both my rear 9x16 Fuch rims were mauled by spraying gravel from an accident leaving marks too deep to sand out for fear of weakening the aluminum. I want to refinish them and continue to use them for street and track. What would I use to fill in the pits and deep scratches and what paint or finish should I use that would hold up with the heat from the brakes and engine? Thanks in advance.

Fuchs could be restored by Harvey Weidman, but otherwise powdercoating is a good option for trackwork...

Thanks Fishcop. Will powdercoating stick to a filler for the deep dings?

Couldn't tell you 100% on filler, but I imagine a small amount should be okay. A decent powdercoat guy will tell you for sure.

Plenty of guys I know have taken the powdercoat route for a track car - black is the easiest to hide dust, but there's pretty good silver/alloy colours that come reasonably close to replicating the original look.

what you should do is bring them to a wheel repair shop . that way they can fill in the road rash and then rebuff the out side lip of the wheels .
by doing that they will hald there value . once you change the wheels from what they should be you have taken away a value they have .
the last one i have had done cost about 155 dallars each for them to do . then i just refinish the centers as needed .
if you just fill and spray the hole wheel you will make a wheel that is worth about 600 dollars
and make it only worth about 150 dollars .

Drcoastline, I have a long line up of fellow trackies with the same suggestion so I'll add your name.
962porsche, I was not aware that the indents could be filled in and the alloy matched. I will look around Toronto first for a suitable shop before considering sending them away.
I am now getting enthusiastic about the wheels again as they were beautiful and highly polished with painted petals. The fronts survived unscathed so when I look at them it reminds me how fantastic they liked on the car. I would like to consider changing the petals to an RS look for my project. I think that I read about the process in one of the Pelican forums but can't put my finger on it. Can anyone help?
