In another thread, it was said that 3M strip caulk should not be used because it is too soft and doesn't seal well.
I've got a few places I was planning on using the 3M product...between the front fenders and the tub, base of the rear quarter windows and where the door window frame meets the door. Was the info in the other thread correct? If so, what should I use and where can I get it?

John, I can't seem to find it online. Can you provide a link?

Nice!
I used this. One tip is to cut a small hole where the fender screws go through. If you try and push the screw through the tape and tighten it you can grab the tape and it will turn with the screw, messing up the seal. I'm not sure if I explained that well enough but I hope what I am saying makes sense. I'm enjoying reading the progress of your rebuild.

The Teroson product is now sold by Henkel and in the UK they only sell a 25 x 1.5mm thick strip and the PET shows the original as 25 x 2.0mm.
I bought a 5metre roll from Porsche and with Sales tax it was nearly $100, which is crazy. When it arrived it was 20mm x 2mm, I bought a 10metre roll of the 3M equivalent 20mm x 2mm and paid $25 and quite frankly can't tell the difference. Last edited by chris_seven; 10-05-2012 at 01:35 AM.. |

Yep, not cheap. I wondered if there was better (cheaper) option.

We just use the 3M now and it works just as well as the Henkel Terostat 81
Henkel list 20 x 2mm but Henkel UK don't stock this size and would only sell a case of 100 x 25 metre rolls !!! |

A good trick when your fitting up your fenders with terostat, give them a spray with WD40, it will give you about 10 minutes to slide the fender back and forth, to fine the correct spot.

Great tip about the WD40. I see myself using that trick soon!

Yes, unfortunately Tony didn't pass that one before I did mine... Just as well I've got enough caulk to do it again
