thanks but i'm not really back !
there was just some thing about this forum on one of the chassis engineering forums i'm on so i thought i would stop in to see what the guy that posted it was talking about . as for my new shop the town is giving me hell about the body shop part of it ! the state gave me to ok but the town is making me jump thru hoops . at this time i rented out the body shop side for car storage and the chassis shop side is up and running . from what some one told me that works in the town hall there that the head of zoneing has a family body shop in town and they make it impossable to open a body shop there . it seams that chassis bilding and design along with fabrications falls under manurfacturing so the town ok that right away . body shops fall under repair so thats a hole other ball game . i have been thinking of just selling all the businesses and retire but keep my airbrush shop in hamden then just do jobs there from time to time . that way i would keep the propertys and rent the space to the people or person that buys the business and i will still have income . I wish you the best of luck 962porsche. Are you still thinking about coming out with a book? I will be one of the first in line to buy one if you do. You are really appreciated here.

i don't have much left to do on the book but i have been spending so much time with the shops and racing it has left me no time for much else . but now the race season is over i will get back on finishing the book . when i was out at laguna seca i met this guy that was thinking of doing dvd's about body and paint work with me . he would take care of all the filming and marketing but we are still talking about all the details . i want it to be more on porsche's and he thinks it would be better if it's more for all type of autos . so we will see ?

for the most part the only other forums i'm on are about engineering .
one is about chassis , suspension and aerodynamics that's what i went to school for many many years ago and the other is about coatings that too later i had schooling in . the chemical engineering forums is about coatings but we talk about things like why and what proply acetate does in base coat mixing clear . i have been on thoughs forums for about 8 years now and not once has there been any BS or hate . you just don't have any people hating you or people crying about you hyjacked my posting . here what i find is i had some drip wanting to argue with me about phase separation with fuels . the funny thing about that is he never even knew about it . the funny thing about that is he was on the suspension engineering part of that forum but it was so far over his head he soon stopped coming on it after 3 times he was told what he was trying to do will not work . he's telling Josh that worked for the williams team he was totaly wrong . then you get the dips that know nothing about setting a there car for the track and you get some ass thinking that adding a bigger anti roll bar on the front of a car that is all ready understeering is the fix and yet he never turned a lap in a race car . but he has done 6 DE days and still has not been signed off to solo . then i get some kids upset about me hyjacking postings when if any one else did the same he would not have any problem with it at all . so i go look thru there other posting and find that others have done nothing more than i have done . but for some reason they only got upset with me . on thoughs forums there is really no BS and hate we are all engineers that talk things over in a proper way so it weeds out the dip sticks very quickly . |

Hi 962, Please drop back around every once in a while to check things out. We all need your help in various projects. I have read most of your posts and socked away quite a bit of knowledge thanks to you. I wanted to get a fender painted that is off the car. Called up a shop told what I wanted and was told no problem. The shop asked about the paint and what car it came off. I told him it was a Porsche, right away he would only paint the whole car. I don't feel confidant to paint it myself.
Cheers, Larry

Larry i can't see why he would want to paint the hole car just for one or two panel's that you need refinished .
one is he is in no way a painter but just a sprayer . i have stated this many times in the past even if they can lay down a great paint job it does not in any way make them a painter . color matching is one part of being a painter and sprayers can't do it or have a very hard time at it . there are cases that the rest of the finish on a car could be so bad that color matching becomes difficult and you may need or want to blend into the panel next to it . but even if you may have to it's worth panel painting the fender 1st to see what you have to work with . find another shop and get a painter to do the work . |

Thank you, 962. The car is Graphite Metallic so I did not think it would be all that hard a job. I am changing out a fender that someone backed into, left no note, put a large dent and I am replacing it with a good fender. No big deal, I thought. The rest of the cars paint looks like new. I'll go to another shop. The one I have used before, with great results, has shut its doors due to the economy. I'm in no rush, just hate to have a dent in the fender.
Cheers, Larry

if the color code is LB7V that color is a good color match i think it's a 1985 to 1986 color only .
on most cars i have painted that color the standered mix in 55 line was a dead nuts match . i think there is only like 6 tints that make up that color so it's ez if it has to be tinted but i bet BASF has color max chips for it . find a glasurit shop with a painter at the worst they may have to blend into the door if the color is 100 miles off but i would not think it should be . |
