Late fenders to long hood lights

I am getting close to getting the front fenders on a 70 Targa finished. At the bottom of the head light buckets on the fenders there is some rust. Not a lot but there.

Before I take the buckets out I am thinking a nice set of later fenders might be the way to go.

The front turn lights part of the fender is in great shape. Has someone here been down this road and if so pros and cons of doing this.

New fenders are out of the question.

Two rivers,

I think you are asking about grafting the long hood horn grills and signal lights onto short hood fenders? If so yes that has been done a few times. I have seen it posted over on the tech board. A search there will probably be more fruitful than here.

Pros- would probably be used short hood fenders are far cheaper than long hood fenders.

Cons- I would say the amount of work and time involved to properly fit and graft the piece on to the fender.

Post a pic of the damage to your fenders. Maybe someone will have an easier fix to save the fender. If the damage is in the bucket you can buy replacements. It it is in the seam where the bucket meets the fender by the mounting crew maybe you can blast the area clean neutralize the area and work from there.

Post a pic.

Thanks for the reply. Yes grafting the horn grill and light. The head light buckets need to be replaced so I think I will start with taking them out and evaluating the fender rust first.

It looks like its not to bad and may be just a small repair.

Thanks again.

Sounds like a plan. Remove the paint in the area, strip the sound deadening from the back and treat the area. Then reasses. If the issue is just with the bucket and they need to be repalced. New buckets can be purchased for about $50.00 ea.

Good luck with the project.
