Need a new VIN Compliance decal

Update -March 2013...they are now making the security cut circle decals for the early '70 + SC P They now have a photo of one posted on their site .

Dec.-15-2012
I have found a guy that makes a 'mirror' reproduction VIN Compliance decal's for restoration and repaints. They have the 'correct' font type including the 'punched out' dot matrix characters.

I actually ordered (prepaid) for one from Porsche AG through Sun Coast Porsche for my 3.2 only to get a reply about six weeks later that they did not produce them any more for the older P Cars. This reply then put me on 'a mission from God' to see where I could get one. After weeks on and off the web I just couldn't find what I wanted.

By chance, a few weeks later, I was moaning about it to a guy that I have know for over 40 yrs that has a professional design/printer business. He went on and asked me to show him a VIN decal. I produced one for him (emailed) the next day and low and behold he said that he could make one up for me. He was very busy with other work at the time, but he did eventually sent me 3-4 mockups to check over for correctness.... I gave him the OK to go ahead.

I received it in Oct. - I had one big smile after taking it out of the envelope that he had mailed it to me in. The next day I started checking at our local Porsche dealers for any 3.2's and as they say I 'lucked out'. A couple of days later a '89 RUF Cab. was being serviced at Weissachs so I was able to make a comparison to see if there was any difference; None... It looks 'exactly' the same...Since making mine he had a few other requests and due to this he has recently put up this blog site.

You may already know of someone, but if not this fellow really does produce the 'real thing'- ' Happiness is'

Older 70's type VIN decals

High John..Glad they got back to you - Did they tell you that they will be doing the late 60's and '70' 'kiss stamp' type decals in the very near future?

They have ordered/bought the machine to do it and they hope to be able to have it up and running sometime in January...Do you want me to give you a bell when it's going? or?

Cheers

I gave the go-ahead to the shop to blast off the old one along with the rest of the stripping so I'll have to do something...but I dont want jsut a printed one, I want it punched. I'll wait until this source or another can do it.

Yeah, give me a jingle when they can punch them properly! Kind of weird Kerry didnt mention that was 'coming soon?'

Thanks!

My mistake, its the rows of partially-perforated circle stamps over the body of the decal they dont do. The VIN is indeeed stamped through.

I'm going to order a couple. Its a bit pricey to be experimenting with but I might try and replicate the stamping with a dulled-off hole punch and light hammer action...

Just for fun I wonder if they could add "remanufacturered by Dr. john JL. KG" after "Dr. Ing. h. c. f. PORSCHE KG"

Kiss stamping

Hi John...On decal restores home page is where it state's that they have bought the equipment to produce these type of decals on the late '60's and 70's...As mentioned they are 'for sure' going ahead with it. I understand that it will be up and running sometime in January...

I have owned Porsches for some 35 years, am a member of PCA, and have never found anyone or heard of anyone ever that has even attempted to reproduce them so if you know of some else that does make sure that you post it...

As for your request for what you want printed on the your decal...They are professional printers so I am sure that they will print whatever you want on them.

I personally found that there price was very good as it was 'exactly' the same as the original, Porsche wanted $240.00 a few years ago and they don't reproduce them anymore - They are originally reproduced for body shops and as the cars get old they quit making them - You can order one from Porsche for a newer vehicle.

I really don't know for sure, but to reproduce these types of decals will no doubt be more than $135.00. My reason for saying this is that they are a low production item- a.k.a -'çustom' - On their site they said that they paid quite a 'chunk' of money to purchase it. I guess that until they have it up and running we just won't know ay.

Hope this info answers some of your questions- If I hear more of when they do go into production I will let you know

Cheers.

I am in the process of doing a complete glass out respray and color change. The VIN decal for the driver's door was the only decal I was unable to source. I decided to try Decal Restore, and man am I impressed. I received the decal before I removed the original, and they were identical. They are great to deal with. Mine is for a 97.

Sorry I misunderstood your question. My reply to you was the link to their site. The email address on their site says: decalrestore@gmail.com This will get you to the owner whose name is 'Kerry'

Rx'd my decal from the folks at Decal Restore. It looks flawless. My car is in the paint shop, miles away so I can't lay it down next to the original but have attached a pic of the original, in place. The last thing to check would be thickness of the new label. (for '89, they didn't use the circular perforations).

I'll try to get a pic of the new one up shortly. Great, detailed work for sure! VERY satisfied!!!!!!!

Thanks for the hook-up, Mig!

BEST!

Doyle

Hi Doyle...With a few more posts like yours popping up regarding the detail and quality of these decals I'm feeling better, as like yourself, I was more than impressed. As i stated some time ago -- They should go into printing money eh
By the way- Have you shipped your seats to Heritage yet?- If you have let me know, and if I can I will see if I can get a photo of them for you in the process - I know that they have tours, so I would give them a ring and explain what I would like to do- I would have to book a time with them. Did they give you a turnaround time once they received them?

Cheers!

The people at Decal Restore produce a flawless product....it's simply amazing, extremely high quality rendition...THE "go-to", for sure.

No shipment yet as they're a bit slow on getting their matched samples back to John for inspection. We then sign off on it,..a $3K deposit will be provided,..then the shipment can begin. John's got a few things out already. I'm planning on shipping everything in the damned car to them for the work (NOT just seats). They'll be providing me the black materials for the local installation phase, such as head liner, pillar materials, dash "facing" areas such as gauge panel, glovebox, etc. I'll let John put his recco'd installer on that project.

The original time prediction was 4-8 weeks,..depending on "things". I'm thinking moreso a month.

Your offers are quite gracious, Sir. I hope that we can work out some of your great suggestions.

Painstaking ordeal: not having her around...changes everything,..like medicine you stopped taking....needed medicine, at that!

I'll keep you updated!

BEST!

Doyle
