Deck Lid Repairs and Paint Matching

I have a guards red '83 SC and I need work done on the deck lid only. What is the likely hood of a good body shop's ability to match the color/tint. One shop alread told me they would like to blend it out with the quarter panels. Is this typical? Any words of advice are greatly appreciated.

red is a ez color to match there are on 4 tints in the color # 027 .
the problem is you took it to a shop that has a sprayer not a painter !
go find a glasurit color source shop that is a shop that will have the certifications to use and have the glasurit line in there shop .
they will also have what is called the color max system . they are real painted spray out done by glasurit ( BASF) of the color number your looking to match . in your case with 027 there are 17 variants if the color gaurds red # 027 i'm sure you will find a chip and the paint to match .
your car is a single stage color that is what it should be painted in and not a base clear color .
of go to a glasurit jobber in your area and look at the color max chips they have bring a piece of the car or the hole car there and match the color your self then buy the 22 line paint needed for the job and bring the lid along with the paint to a shop and have them repair and spray it for you .

i guess i must be back at it ! god only knows why ? maybe it's just to piss off the dip sticks ?
so are they capable ?
go to a dupont , PPG or many other jobber they will have a color camera and take a photo for you yes . but as you know ( but i would say not ) they are only 70 % accurate .
and they will not do spray outs for you of the color so then you well have to buy the color and then do your own spray outs to see if it's really a good match to panel paint what you have to spray .
were if you find a glasurit shop or jobber you will have the spray out done for you by BASF . that are 100% accurate because they are real spray out done with real paint .

so GEEZ are they all capable ? NO !

I had mine sprayed at Auto Associates in Canton. But they use PPG Had Gasurit and switched a few years ago. The car AND paint are beautiful.
He'll find you a shop using BASF maybe even his.

1- were are you in CT?
2- what car ?
3- what color ?
1- Top center. ;-)
2- 1983 SC Cab widebody
3- Currently Guards Red, India Red or??? Originally White....

It will be a while before I am ready since this car is driven purposefully. I still haven't decided on color, bumpers and all the other wonderful things I should do while it's apart. I know of a few "good" shops up here, but have my concerns when a car of this caliber is in the booth. I am far from purist, but I do like my moneys worth of body and paint.

Funny, I was admiring your car a few days ago, lol. It is beautiful! Where did you source the front valance? Any fitment issues? I am familiar with AA in Canton. Thank you for the info.

Stumbled upon this thread... I'm in New Haven and planning on having the tail mounting holes on my GP White decklid filled and painted this week at a shop in Milford that has done good quality work for me in the past. They have a full PPG station. I'll report back on the color match.

I'm pretty new to the 911 world - are there any good meets / rallies on the weekends around these parts?
