Battery Tray Paint Prep

'87 911 had battery explode. Cleaned thoroughly with lots of water and baking soda. Now concerned about future damage in area. The surface has a factory textured surface. Grey on one side and red on the other and the bottom where battery goes.

Thinking of coating area with clear Por-15. But directions say paint needs to be rusty or down to bare metal, which this is not. Looks perfectly clean and have not noticed any damage. Think I can use Por-15 ? Think it may help? Any other suggestions?

Thanks for any help.

things you have to ask your self .
does POR neutralize acid ?
if there is any acid left on the surface what will the por product do to stop any from eating right thru the POR ?
what is the point of me wanting to put some thing over the area that i cleaned with water and baking soda ?
if i did miss any of the acid that may eat up the finish what kind a job will it be to repair it with some product there that is not supposed to be there in the 1st place ?

now the thing you should do is clean the hell out of it to make dam sure you got all the acid off the area .
if there is some thing that has to be repaired because it eat into the finish you should repair the same way porsche coats the area and not some other way .
do the job right the 1st time and you will only have to do it once .
then when your done it will look just as it should so no one could ever tell some thing happend .

Not knowledgeable mechanically. How do you remove the fan (?) black thing on right front of trunk area.

Want to clean under. Removed two screws on bottom flange hoping to free up but will not budge. Thanks for any ideas.

The battery tray in my 88 Carrera was also exposed to venting acid due to a faulty alternator regulator. Acid residue was flushed with lots of water and baking soda. Small patches of peeling "Schutz" on the top deck will be easy enough to fix. However, I have noticed some rust stains in the area between the battery tray and belly pan exposed by the open tray corner. Porsche962, what would you recommend in this case? Will cavity wax offer enough protection? (jjmuirjr - there is an adhesive gasket causing the base of the blower assembly to stick. Be careful removing it, the thin black plastic at the base may crack!)
Thanks.
Marc

cavity wax will do little to nothing once it starts rusting .

this is were you have to step out of the box because the car is all welded together so i a case like this we would use a spray can of acid 8 etch primer and use the spray top from another product that has the little hose on it like PB blast . that way you can get the etch primer into the seams from the inside .
