How to match a non-original metallic paint?
Does anyone have a recommendation about how I might get a paint match for a non-original metallic paint (in Denver)?
I've seen scanners for paint matching for home paint, but not auto. Any suggestions? Thanks! Dickson

the do have to same type of color cameras for auto paints .
what would be the best bet is to look for a BASF jobber (auto paint store ) they have what are called color max chips . they are real spray out done by BASF . they can scan the color with the camera but because cameras are only 70 % accurate the color still maybe off but from that you can then match to the color max chips that the camera gives as matches to get the color 100% right . that way your not having to buy and color and do the spray out your self waiting time and your money on paint only to find out what you bought and sprayed out is not a good match to your cars color . |

One of the Painter's Supply shops where I've gotten paint before will match it for me, but it will take a couple of days.
I'm going to remove the rear deck lid (which is the damaged panel anyway), and leave that with them for matching reference. Thanks! Dickson

I left my early whale tail (painted the same as the car but not a factory color) and my new to me duck tail at the body shop. They matched it perfectly.
I was a little nervous as I had no idea what color or manufacture the paint was.
