best way to remove the tag to prep for painting?

Mask off a section around the tag and leave it framed in old colour for posterity?
Or a dentist's drill to remove the rivets....

use the edge of a sharp wood chisel to get under the pin , they have a spiral type thread so once the edge is caught the pins come up quickly
