front fender install question

What is the sealer used between the fender and the chassis. When I pulled mt fenders there was a compound like plumbers putty sealing the tub to the fenders.

Thanks in advance
Brendon

fender strip putty is what it's called .
you should always replace it if you remove it from the fender and apron it hilft stop the two panels from chafing on one another and then rusting later on .
we use putty tape 1/8" X 3/4" i think it's made by CRL ? i will look later on when i go to the body shop .
you may find it on google too ?
it's not cheap if i rember right it's like 150 dollars a roll but you can do many car with one roll .

No, the foam is porous. It has to be a water tight seal that will last for decades. Don't go cheap.

ok so i just looked and the name of the stoff is CRL with a number of PT34X18 .

you would think a foam would work but the down side is that foam holds moisture and take foever to dry when it does get wet .
the other down side to using a foam is that it does not really hold out water and once you get it soaked from driving in the rain the water could start to leak into your trunk area .
