Plastic emblems - re-sticking

I peeled the plastic name plates (Northstar/Deville) and plastic cadillac emblem off the trunk of a car I repaired. They were stuck on with a double sided adhesive material. When I used a heat gun to pull them off it bungs up the adhesive material.

I ran into the same issue with a 944 Turbo a few years back. I used an emblem glue on the 944 and it softened the paint so much that it left some imperfections.

Any idea of the correct product to use to re-glue/affix?

you 1st should use a product like RM's 900 to remove the old adhesive from the panel and the back of the badge .
the best way is to get a clothe rag and soak it with the 900 and place it on the back side of the badge . it will soften the adhesive so it will fall right off if you just let it sit and keep the rag wet with the 900 . the same holds true for the adhesive on the panel .
once the adhesive is off get some double sided emblem and molding tape and retape the back of the molding ,badge or what ever . trim the tape so you don't see it sticking out all over . a #11 x-acto knife works best for trimming .
needless to say but measure just were the old one was before you remove it so you know just were is goes back on the car .

so your not reglueing the badge your replacing the material that was there to begin with .
regluing does not work and if you get it to stay it will still look like hell .
if the badge has thin lettering or script you just replace the badge it's not worth trying to put new tape in it . that would be fore badges like the ones that say Carrera on the 911's and the ones that say 944 , 968 and so on . they are not worth the time to try and retape them because they are dirt cheap .

Thanks. NAPA has some double sided stuff. I will go check that out.

If RM900 is similar to the product you use to clean a panel just before painting, I have that.

I'll post a pic if I use it. (The tape)

the 900 is a medium exploring slow drying pre body work cleaner .
I know it will not in any way harm plastic as for what you have I would check with a test spot 1st before you soak a rag and place it on the part .

Agree with a test.

The emblem adhesive I mentioned above sure did not look that potent until the clear coat started melting.

Of course that was an Akso Nobel clear. :-)

I had there paint system in my shop when I 1st opened 35 years ago .
I changed after 3 months because the system just did not work .
the color matching sucked ! if you had to repaint any thing there own products (base coat) would lift there own clears .
the baking times were 30 minutes not the 20 minutes of most clears out there .
you thing well 10 more minutes is not a big deal but when your baking cars in cold weather your heat bill for the booth goes way up .

You have expressed your love for them in the past. I figured my comment would get you going. :-)

FWIW, I had no say in the paint.
