Storing, preserving and possibly installing rear quarter panels
I have a 1970 911T that has been converted into a RS clone. I recently bought used left and right rear quarter panels removed from a 1970 911T. I plan on keeping the panels in anticipation of me or a future owner going back to a narrow body. Does anyone have any recommendations of how to store and or prevent further deterioration of them? Possibly outside if properly wrapped up. Also, do I just need a small section around the exterior fender wells for my possible future project? Thanks!

You have a lot of extra metal. The quarter panel is just the outer skin. The inner panel (oil gallery, motor mounts, interior inside panel) are all seperate pieces from the quarter panel you would replace. With out seeing the quarter panel and how much was removed to install the RS flares I would keep the panel the way it is. Hit the edges of the cuts with some type of sealer. (POR-15). Best way I think is media bast or strip the entire panel then seal (epoxy primer?) then store.
For my project I took a 66 911 back from and 80's IROC conversion. I bought brand new factorty quarters, no rust, no fuss, just waited 10 months for the drivers side panel. Good luck Joe D |

Good advice by Rat. He is correct most of what you have wouldn't be used to convert back. Just the outer panel. You could cut from the door flange and the rear lid flange cut out the tail light pocket and discard all the inner sheet metal. Hit the exposed/rusted parts with a rust inhibitor such as POR15 metal ready, pickle or a similar product to neutralize existing rust and treat the exposed metal to prevent rust. Then coat the exposed metal with Por15 or even just Rustoleum for long term protection. The only thing I would advise against is stripping the panel. I wouldn't do that.

Thanks. I would like to discard what I might not need as they are kind of bulky to move around and store.
