I am getting ready to do some body work on my bare-metal 1976 Porsche Project but have questions on whether I prime the areas with self etching primer and then add the filler (bondo or equivalent) on top of the primer or should I put on the filler first? If I put the filler on first, do I need to prep the metal chemically or just sand it? The more I think about it the more confuse I get. Any recommendations or tips will be greatly appreciated.

there are a few options with doing your filler work .
you could spray a single coat of a epoxy or etch primer down before you start your filler work . to do this you would only want to use one of the two and only over your bare metals . you would want to pick a activated primer for this after it's sprayed if you can't bake the primer let it sit for 48 hours or more at 70 degrees or better temp to let it cure . some body fillers will go over primers and paints with out troubles others will not and need to go over bare metals only . I have found the people that say doing your filler work over paints and primers the fillers will not stick is just that they are using the wrong filler . |

What is a good edge primer or epoxy primer? Are the WURTH products good for this job? I will definitely try this method of priming first and see how it goes. Thank you for the tips 962porsche!

I do not buy any wurth products . the reason is they do not make products them self's they take other peoples products and put there name on them .
you could use a epoxy primes for this just be sure it's a chromated and activated primer . the chromate will replace the galvanized coating on the car . when you sand the finish off down to bare metal you will also be removing the galvanized coat too as the galvanized coating is less then a mill thick . if your looking for a product to stick to bare metals and to painted and primed areas you can use the USC pro7 filler it a mid cost product . a 80 grit cut or tooth is the grit you will want to do your filler work over so try not to sand or grind with a grit more then that or you could end up seeing sanding and grinding marks later on down the road thru your paint work . if you need to grind you can do so with a heavy grit like 24 grit but before you apply any filler go back over it with 80 grit . |

Thanks, things are starting to make more sense to me now; The USC pro7 sounds like the way I might want to try first. Again, thank you for your tips and recommendations.
