stone protectors

Hi, Is there a correct procedure to follow when fitting the plastic stone protection pads to a 944 front and rear wheel arch please? I think I 've got the right stuff, it's transparent and sticky one side made by 3M.

installing the over lays are very ez to do .

if it's going on a repaint wait until 48 hours or more to let the solvents escape or the over lays will get bubbles it from the solvents doing so . at times up to two weeks maybe in order before you apply the over lays if it's a repaint with enamel paint and air drying .

with some masking tape mark on the panels were they should be using the masking tape as your line up marks .
then with a plant type spray bottle full with water and add some dish soap about 10 to 15 drops is all you need . more soap is not better to much will cause a haze under the film .

next peal some of the backing off the over lay . DO NOT TOUCH THE STICKY PART OF THE OVER LAY WITH YOUR FINGERS !
spray the back (sticky part ) of the over lay with the water and soap and do the same with the panel were the over lay is going .
place the over lay were you want it and peal the rest of the backer off .
you may need to spray a little more water on the sticky part of the over lay so it will not stick to the panel until you want it to .
I find I do have to hold the over lay with my fingers on both sides so to not get a finger print on the back side I will tear off a little piece of the unused back to put between my fingers and the sticky part of the backer .
with it wet you should be able to move the over lay around so to were it will line up to your masking tape marks .
once you have it were you want it working from the center squeegee out the water .
make sure the outter parts of the over lay do not stick 1st to trap any water .
again some times as your working a bigger over lay you will have to keep the outer edges wet so they do not stick 1st so you may have to spray them again and again with the water soap mix .

now with the over lays flat and stuck were you want them and all the water is squeegeed out from the under side blot don't wipe the rest of the water off from the over lay and the surrounding panel .
it will take a little time for all the water to evaporate from between the over lay and the panel .
so take care not to catch the edge wiping it .

depending on the maker of the over lay and the plastic they used you will see a haze look to the hole over lay (with clear ones) .
I have found after a day or so the haze will go away .

some people will use glass cleaner instead of the water with just a little soap .
but I have seen a hand full of times over the years that things like glass cleaner having ammonia in them will cause the sticky part to look funny and not ever go way .
