U-Pol Gravitex

I'd like to spray some U-pol Gravitex on my gas tank and in the suspension pan area/wheel wells and would like to use the spray gun supplied with the bottles. I only have a tiny 3-gallon air compressor though, so am looking to borrow something more substantial from a friend - will a 20-gallon 150-psi portable unit be good enough?

Also - what is the best spraying technique (distance etc.) to get a factory-like texture?

Thanks!

I don't think you will get the needed sustained CFM's needed out of the compressor your looking to use .
you would be able to spray little areas at a time at best .
as for technique I have never used the gun your looking to use . the guns we use in my shop is a very high quality one with full adjustments for air , flow and tip adjustments .

I would do a little test panel on some thing to see what you get and go from there .

OK, good to know. Air compressors seem to be very a much a "go big or go home" arrangement.

FYI, this is the U-Pol gun that comes with the kit:

How would the Wurth aerosol below compare to the Gravitex? Is it comparable in terms of protection from chipping or is it really just for touch-ups?

The gun I have is similar to a sandblasting gun. It ain't high tech.

However, if you mess the finish up with a 15" distance with maybe 70 psi, and keep it moving you have had way too many gin and tonics and you are talking on a cell phone while spraying.

I have NEVER not had a decent pebble finish. 962 works/worked on cars where the degree of pebble finish would be critical for discriminating customers. I just want a pebble finish providing protection.

In Ohio, the nose of the hood on cars get beat up bad. I shot gravitex and sprayed the green over this and it looks ok. Is it perfect, meh... what's perfect on a 14 year old Honda? Did it stick and mend with paint well? Yep. You are shooting an oil tank.

I powder coated my oil tank. Gravitex would have been fine.

a product like this is good if your just doing a small area .
we don't use the wurth but we do use the u-pol spray can stone guard .
yes it's more to spot in areas then doing bigger areas .
I used it yesterday on a friends NA Miata were the rot repair was in front of the rear wheels .
