Cost of repainting a door

I have been trying to price the repainting of my 1984 911 passenger door where the previous owner tried to fix a chip about an inch long and wound up looking worst especially in sunlight as you can see from the pics below.




I tried a few places and the quotes range from $820 to over $1000 and that is to sand, color, and buff the door. Does that sound right? I had no clue it would be that much.
(11-12 hours of labor, $144-$240 in paint materials)

I can save a $175 if I remove the inside panel parts, mirror, and door handle, but what is the degree of difficulty to do that?
