Need Opinions on Painting my Yellow 911
Hello All,
This is my 1975 911 car at current and i wanted to paint it. The paint on there isn't that great at the moment. It's what looks like light yellow. I'm really not fond of light yellow and would like to paint it signal yellow. The issue here is i don't have the time or funds to paint the jams, under hood etc. Thoughts on doing a drastic color change? I know it's my car so personally I'd rather paint it the car I like. My concern is also resale value. Is it better to re-paint it light yellow again, vs. exterior only signal yellow? or is it better to do a middle ground color like speed yellow. Danny

1st resale is not a concern as you have changed the car to far from stock for that to matter .
as for color change you could just do most of the things like the jams your self with a little money and work . my thinking is your worried about cost because your looking at a shop doing the prep and paint of the out side of the car ???? you could buy some enamel ,hardener and reducer and do the jams with a preval sprayer your self . prepping is not a hard thing to do a couple of red scuff pads and a week end is all it would take . we can walk you thru just what you would have to do if you need help with any part of it . because the rear lid and hood should be removed any way when the car is painted the under sides of them will not add allot to the total cost of the job so a shop could do them as they are a little big for a preval sprayer . |

962porsche - I would love to learn more about your method of using a hardened enamel to spray the jambs with a preval sprayer.

there really is nothing to learn as a preval is pretty much the same as if you did it with a spray can . the plus is you can mix a catalyst (hardener ) into the paint making more durable then just a spray can .
the prep and masking would be no different then you would do if you were going to use a spray gun . you still pull the doors off and tear every thing down like removing weather seals . I would opt for using a slow hardener and reducer to keep the paint open for a little longer so you will avoid it be to dry looking . |

also would you have to mix it a little thin or loose
to get it to spray like a real spray gun ??? |
