Disassembly for Paint

So I'm about fifteen hours into removing everything on my 911 (except front and rear glass) and worked on the windshield wipers today. Removed the arms, plastic covers, metal caps, and rubber grommets; there seems to be enough room to tape the threaded spindle to prevent overspray but I'm wondering if I should drop the wiper arm assembly?

Also, should I try to remove the headlight buckets from the fenders? They seem to be stuck pretty tight!

Thanks!

there is no real need to remove the wiper posts them selfs from the car if your not going to go that deep into the refinishing of the car . that would be doing paint work in the area of were the wiper motor assy. is it's self .

the head lamp buckets are welded onto the fenders . I'm thinking your talking about the head lamp body / housing that bolts into the bucket . yes remove it if your not just going to mask off were the trim ring seals on the fenders .
I'm sure there will be a little rust in the bucket you may want to remove if your painting the thing any ways .

I see you have a 328 gtb one of my cars is a white 1988 328GTS they are just fun cars to drive .
I got mine hit in the front when the owners step son took the car with out asking . he did not have the car registered or insured at the time the 17 year old kid took it when the last owner and his new wife of 7 months went to NH for the weekend and left the kid at home .
I use it for track days most of the time but I did drive it to the shop today as the weather was nice .

Thanks! Doing a bare metal respray, exterior surfaces only...

No, I mean the actual buckets. They have a single bolt at the bottom, which I removed, but the buckets are still stuck in place; now I know why! I will pull back the headlight wiring so that the interior of the buckets can be sprayed. and change the wiring drain plugs/grommets...

Every single shop I took it to recommended a bare metal respray. Some minor rust beneath the rear Targa glass seal, right front fender has paint lifting, left rear quarter was poorly repaired years ago, long before I took ownership...

the reason I ask is many people think it's the best way to refinish a car .
so they go take all the finish off and 99% of the time the car does not have to be stripped to bare .
just because there is a bad repaint on the left qtr panel does not always mean you have to strip it of all it's finish . if there is more then 14 mils of paint then the car has to be stripped or the finish will chip and crack .
the OE under coats are the best you will find . can they be replace with the same quality well yes but at a very high cost to do so .
rust under the rear glass is common so you pull the glass and blast the area were the rust is .
pealing paint on one fender may only mean you have to strip only that panel .

I'm not saying you have to strip the hole car but I'm not saying you don't either .
I can't see the hole car in person and see how many mils are on the car .
all I'm saying is many times cars get stripped to bare for no good reason because people think it's the best way when it's not in all cases .

I really appreciate your insight and pressed each shop I've spoken with over the last two years as to whether stripping the car to bare metal was really necessary. All came to the same conclusion so I concluded that it was a necessity, and not a shop's particular preference.

The car has 60K original miles; I'm the second owner since 1986.
