Body filler on panels for what?

Hi
As im slowly turning my cab back to a coupe and changing the color of car to give it a new fresh look , ive been doing one panel at a time ,

the first one i finished was the front right fender i took it back to bare metal i wanted to be sure there wasnt any rust starting and also to see if there iwas any previous accident damage,

So far so good,,

Then i did same with door ans all good also

But today i started taking paint off the rear right fender

I can see a bog patch added at a different time,
So i slowly in a nervous way started to sand it away to see why there was so much bog there, and its quite deep too, about 6mm.

So pls have a look and tell me your thoughts, i can see no damage, no weld, no rust, nothing under the bog out of the ordinary,

Why would someone do it? i can only think they did it to fatten up the rear in the looks department?

Red arrows show clean bare metal that i sanded to expose
Brown circles show the filler/bog

Remove all that body filler and you will see some damage that was repaired. Don't worry, that looks minor.

Ok here it is bare metal
Nothing there! to warrant the areas of thick bog, when i look at it from different views there are no dents or body linesi can see out of the ordinary
notice the guard seam looks like stitching was done when built

And theres body filler is the round area about the size of a ten cent piece/quarter

Ill go to work on panel otherside today ill see if they did the same there, if they did then possible that a po wanted a slightly different look ? wierd

it's not to uncommon for a person that is not to good with body work to use way to much filler .
they get them selfs lost in the job they feel some wrong with the works and they end up just putting one more coat of filler on .

The pattern looks like the 11" steel fender flares I recently welded onto my SC.

That's the outer part of a quarter welded on. Either to repair rust or damage. You can see the weld ground down. Look from the inside & you'll see that your quarter was cut & welded.

I can see pitted rust holes on the top of your quarter. Replace the quarter with a good one. Not worth the time & work involved to fix that one. Cheers
