Removing overspray from seals

Sometime in the past, the left rear fender of my 87 targa was resprayed (GP White). The paint itself looks great, but they did not fully mask the seal that runs around the base of the targa window trim, from the targa bar back to about the start of the deck lid. Anybody know a good way to get a thin white stripe of paint off that seal?

Thanks. Ken

there is no real ez way to do it ! one way is to take a bondo spreader and stick it under the gasket when with a little thinner on a rag wipe the gasket were the paint is . that may remove the unwanted paint . another way is to still using the spreader under the gasket pick the paint off with a butter knife . be real careful if your going to try the butter knife trick in that you don't tear the gasket . just flick the paint off pulling the knife off the edge of the gasket . if you can't get the spreader under the gasket you can use masking tape to protect the paint on the car body .

Thanks 962. Whatever else I do, i'm sure I'll mask the paint under the seal, since i don't trust myself with scrapers around good paint. Thanks for your ideas. Ken

if you are going to try thinner don't use tape to protect the paint the thinner will melt the glue on the tape . use a thin peice of plastic or a spreader under the gasket.

What type of thinner? I tried mineral spirits and it didn't touch the paint on a rubber seal.
