color code? Early Countach

Anyone have an idea where to find the color code on an earlier Lamborghini Countach 500s?

962porsche 12-11-2014 07:37 PM

they are all in the same place black aluminum plate on the drives door .
the PL500s is the mid product of the countach the LP400's are the early ones .
I have owned 6 countach's over the year and own a 1988 at this time .
most of the lambos will have 7 digit for there color codes how ever some will only have 4 digits but most of them will be on the later or newer lambo's .
they used lacquer up till 1989 then BASF stopped production of the autolack system so them they went to glasurit's 22 line .
lambo uses for the black sealer for the seams of the flares and rocker covers is GE's black silicone part #5030 .
they also only used copper rivets to attach the aluminum panels to the steel chassis . copper is used so they will not cause electrolysis between the steel and aluminum . you can get the proper rivets from Hanson rivet . com .

Didn't see a plate on the driver's door. I'll have a look again once I get the plastic off after prepping the frame. Thank you.

if it's missing the plate then it's also missing all the other info about the car .
my car is covered in storage right now but I will see if I can run down this weekend and get a photo of just were the code is . it's not marked the best like on a Porsche or BMW but it should be right under the door latch on the door it's self with the production date and all the other info .

I appreciate it. If all else fails, We'll just blend our own color. The only part we need body color for is the lower body panel where someone once mounted and American bumper. The other work on the car is a chassis and engine bay detail and that will go Polane.

The car itself is in pretty good original condition. The worst of the exterior paint is the doors as they are well cracked around the windows. The owner likes the patina I guess.

it's lacquer it checks !
the US spec bumpers should not be mounted any different then the euro fiberglass ones . the bumper brackets are different also but they both use the same mounts on the chassis it's self .
because I have changed so many bumpers on the countach's I ended up making a mold for the bumpers and the rear cover plates for the holes on the rear QTR's .
the weight of the US spec bumpers is nuts .

Well, the car is done except for a few small items like block offs and inside the front trunk lid. Looks pretty good for a partial strip and repaint of the engine bay and chassis. The outside really needs a strip and paint but the owner likes the patina. He's going to remove the front wing and replace the front lid with one sans holes. If I'm nice, I vacuum out the ton of mouse crap from the dash and floors. Gotta love the classy dowl to told open the doors since the struts are blown.

the 2nd countach I owned I had to replace the door strut and the hinge .
I found a after market sturt for 125 dollars . I needed to open the holes for the mounting bolts thru it but the length and strength (lbs) were the same . because the struts go bad all the time when I get customers that needs the strut replaced I give them the option of aftermarket or OE replacement . most go for the after market but still ***** about the cost .
from Lamborghini I think the strut listed for 380 dollars it's the cost of the hinge that really kills me . I think it was about 1200 dollars ?
