Painting H4 headlight trim ring
The PO upgraded the headlights on my 78 Targa to H4s but did not install or leave me trim rings. The "inner rings" are bright chrome and the rest of the car has the chrome in matte finish option.
I would rather have outer rings in matte chrome than paint to match body color (silver). Do any of you have a suggestion on a paint brand/color to match matte chrome? A rattle can would be fine and I prefer to paint it myself. As an aside....was the matte chrome option popular in 1978? Were the choices back then chrome, matte chrome, and black? Thanks

There was no matte finish option for bright trim, ever. The trim on a '78 was available in two varieties, bright and black. The bright trim wasn't chrome. Most of the trim on the car was aluminum that was polished and then clear anodized. The trim rings on the H4 lights were chrome plated brass.
No idea what you have, whether it is stock bright trim that has seen better days or something a previous owner modified. JR |
