silver trim on Bosch tailights

have my original 71 Bosch F+R turn signal lenses that are in very nice condition except the silver trim is around the perimeter is peeling/chipping. Has anybody restored this area with decent results.? Methods.? Don't need a total concours job, just something that looks presentable. I've seen the Rustoleum chrome paint, anybody use it.? Any help appreciated

sand the silver trim paint off using 220 grit paper .
if you think your going to hit the part you don't want to repaint with the sand paper then mask it off with masking tape .
after it's sanded wipe the area off with rubbing alcohol mixed with water 50/50 .
mask off the two sides if the lenses so no over spray will get on any thing you do want it to .
wipe the edge off again with the alcohol then I like to use plastic adhesion promoter and spray one medium coat after it flashes off you can then spray your top coat color silver (some are also black ) .
I have never used spray can products for this I use a paint you add hardener to it give it a longer live . but in your case I'm sure the spray can will hold up just fine .

yes buff them up 1st if they need it then wash with soak and water good .
I use the 3" air buffer and good old regular compound just like you do to a painted finish .
it will make them look like new again .

10-4, Thx again for your help. Another question, diff item. spraying my tank with Upol gravitex, after it is applied, what is a good spray bomb to hit it with to give as much as a factory gray finish as possible.? When should I spray the gray, while Upol is wet or cured.? Any help appreciated. Thx again 9

In restoring the gas tank. going as close to possible to the original Gray on top, should the bottom of the tank (exposed) be a darker shade.? I have a pretty clean original undercarriage in place and want to try and match up the shade of the tank to it. Was the bottom of the tank "blacked out" from the factory or was the whole (1 shade of the lighter Gray) tank simply dropped in.? Not going nuts on exact representation here, but since I have the tank out... Thx in advance
