Undercoating as rock guard?

The manager at a paint supply place told me a lot of local shops use 3m undercoating as rock guard at bottom of car to be painted over. Does this sound doable? Thx. Mark

they are not the same product so they have two entirely different uses .
black rubberized undercoat has non with cars ! no automaker uses the product on any thing so there is no reason for any one to spray that useless product on a car .
use chip guard !
