How many layers?
Sanding a door. Think I'm looking at 9-10 layers! What's the record found? I'm sure this is thin compared!!!

12+ on the rear fender of my carrera. Primer filler color clear repeat :(
I think I had a bug that was over 20 http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x...psofsxf6en.jpg |
I only found 4 coats on my car..... The last takes the cake though. Its over 1/16 inch think. Not sure how anyone could spray it that thick and not have it pour off the car but they did!

How many layers?
I don't want to hijack the thread but this looks like a good place to ask. Did you run across a 'tar-like' layer? On my '74 I believe it was the second layer above the metal.
On that note, I only see about 4 layers of color but excessive amounts of body filler in places where the body isn't deformed at all. What grit are you using, and are you stripping all the paint off? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
-back in the day- wet sand- mask it off with newspaper spray it -let it dry over night deliver back to used car dealer get another one. We never thought of stripping layers off. Apparently we weren't the only ones "pouring it on"
I strip sanded my door using 80 was tempted to use 36 but I worry about deep gouges and primer, paint shrinking leaving marks. |
