Flag mirrors a pain to remove?
Prepping early 944 for paint and would like to remove mirrors. Are they a pain to remove?

not really ! a hack will cut the wires a good tech depins them . you need the Porsche depinning tool as Porsche uses there own size pins . the connector is down at the base of the A-piller.
there is only one allen head you need to remove . turn the mirror to the back and you will see it right on top of the base . |

Actually you don't need the Porsche tool. You can use the back end of a metal ink cartridge out of an old pen, the kind that unscrew in the middle & have the spring on the end. It works just as well.
Not sure if the brand matters. Last edited by jchamness; 11-15-2015 at 07:15 PM.. |

some others have said that too I have never tried it as I just bough the tool it was not allot of money 45 or 50 bucks some years ago . the main thing is don't cut the wires .
I couldn't count the times over the years we have had to repair mirrors not working and found out it was because simply some hack cut the wires . it's some thing that makes you wonder as to why in hell Porsche doesn't make it so you can just unplug the connector and pull the dam thing thru the hole in the door . |

Make sure you photograph and/or diagram the correct pin locations for reassembly!

My mirrors are on an SC - expect they'd be the same as a 44? I bought the Lisle 56500 Terminal Tool. Slide the tube over the pin to release the lock, then pull it out with needle nose. My mirrors were on for 35 years, can't imagine a makeshift tool getting the pins out so easily. Take note of the pinout before you go at it.
