Need some input/thoughts on creating a windshield/cowl corner on 914
Looking for some words of wisdom creating a windshield/cowl corner on a 914.
I'm thinking I will need to build it in 3 or 4 pieces ............. Below is a rough draft. I know I'll need to go further both directions on the inner pieces.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1455471248.jpg The circle is an area I might have trouble with on the first layer. Here's my rustoration thread with details on my project. 914World.com - The fastest growing online 914 community! I did ask Restoration Design to add it to the wishlist. The part is available on lots of over cars. They make one for the 911. |
Find a donor car which is pretty easy cut out piece, weld it onto your car, done.

I was thinking about that yesterday. I may start a search.
The problem I see is that cars with a good windshield frame probably aren't being cut up. It's a pretty common rust area, but most folks don't even know it till they pull out the windshield. |
Common with 911s also, actually it doesn't really look to bad maybe just cut out that one bit of rot, sandblast the rest treat with ppg metal cleaner/conditioner a type of ospho phosphate, epoxy prime.

When I had my 72, I took a picture of the rusty cowl areas and sent it to DC Auto. I marked it up showing the sections I wanted - They took a cowl and custom cut for me. Might be worth a try? They were great to deal with
