Door shims

Hi. I would like to move the doors on my 70 targa back towards the rear quarter panel for a more even gap. The door already hangs even to the fender and rocker, just needs moved back. The gap is wider at the top of the door to the rear quarter panel however, I believe this is correct, although I don't know why? I don't want to open a can of worms so looking for the easiest way to do this on my own. Take off door with hinges left on the door, shim, re-attach door?

Cheers

Ryan can you post a couple pics so we can see what your dealing with? You are correct the margins at the top are wider.

Ryan, I had the same problem on my 914. I traced the hinge and cut some shims out of thin sheet metal. After a trial fit, then primed and painted. Worked great. If your interested, I have a master template I could take a picture of and post. Best, Mark

Ryan, you do not have to take door off. Just loosen one hinge, shim, tighten and go to the next.
I would still mark hinge position with a fine magic marker if things shift.

Hi Ryan, metal was .028 inch worked for me, could be more or less. Easy to cut and drill. Test fit, prime and paint. Best, Mark
