IROC bumper work (turn signals)

I am currently in process of installing an IROC bumper on my 75. I've trimmed the bumper and fitted it so that it almost looks factory. The next obstacle is going to be to install the turn signals. The turn signal holes it comes with don't seem to fit as clean and tight as I like (seems like the hole in the back was cut too big and the slot for the turn signal is too wide).

Right now, I'm thinking I will first add more fiberglass to the cut outs so that the turn signal housing bolts can screw into something, allowing me to avoid using huge metal washers. From there, I'm thinking I will fill the cavity with bondo and press in the turn signal housing before it hardens, then pull it back out as carefully as I can to basically mold it into the bumper.

Some pictures attached. I have little to no experience in body work. Thanks for any input you guys have for me.

I'm hoping my turn signals will look as good as this when I'm done:

who made your bumpers? ive notice the left turn signal housing fits more flush than the driver side on some of these aftermarket IROC/RS bumpers.

Its a TRE bumper. It took me about about 2-3 days of trimming, drilling holes, fitting, bending the brackets to mount it, etc. over and over to fit it. Keep in mind this is with my 0 hours of experience in body work so this probably could have taken others 2-3 hour to do with a little bit of experience. I was afraid to remove excess material by mistake so I really took my time.

Any input on how how I should install the turn signals to be tighter and cleaner? Does my approach sound ok or is there a better/easier way?

im afraid i dont have any advice on how to make your turn signals fit snug.

press it in semi harden bondo dosent seem to be a bad idea though you might want to use some sort of mold release, tape or seran wrap on the back.

here is a link for some factory period 3.0/IROC cars to see the location and offset of the t- signals. it appears there is a bevel showing on the inside of the turn signals while the outer fits snug.

Thanks. those pictures were helpful. seems like the turn signals don't fit that snug either in some of those pictures. I still want mine to be cleaner since I'm going through all of this effort already.

I have an IROC bumper from TRE as well (narrow body though) & I did exactly as you outline - added some glass to the rear of the opening to better serve the lightbox studs for mounting and also filled in the front of the opening so the gaps around the lenses were much tighter. I'd not use big quantities of bondo if you can help it - I think it's better to use fiberglass for the big steps/filler & save the bondo for the very minor finish stuff...

I started to fiberglass the turn signal "pocket" for a tighter fit, however, it seems like I will need to use a lot of fiber glass cloth. I've probably installed 10 layers and it barely looks noticeable in terms of the thickness I'm trying to achieve.

I think I will installed another several layers (20-30?). After that's cured, I think I'll fill the holes with bondo and press in my turn signals to basically create a mold. Before it gets too hard, I'll remove the turn signal.

Does this approach sound right?

would this be the best or correct bondo to use? Bondo 272 bondo glass. I figured since it's got some fiberglass in it, that will make it better, but again, I'm new at this

Thanks for the help
