Can metallic paint be shot through an airbrush?

Am considering doing some paint touch up work to exterior of car. Am thinking an airbrush would work nicely... but... am not sure if metallic paint will pass through needle/nozzle orifice. Input is appreciated.

yes it will . thats not the problem though !
airbrushes make for pretty pore touch up guns . the metallics will not lay down the same as if you used a mini gun . most of the time using a airbrush it will look 3 to 4 times lighter of a shade . it has to do with the amount of fluid and the way it lays it down the metallic flakes need to float and lay over on there sides . you can buy a low cost mini gun and it will work better then an airbrush for spot repairs .

Thanks for info 962. I looked into a mini gun set up---interesting that m-guns are lower cost than airbrushes.

This gun is $16. Operating pressure is about 50psi. (Home Depot Model # SPRAYIT SP-352 Internet #202977423.) Compressor is $55, 3 gal., 1/3 HP, 100 psi, oil-less pancake. (Harbor Freight, Central Pneumatic® - Item#61615.)

Question - With 50psi operating pressure required for gun, will 3 gal and 100 psi compressor work?---or is more air storage and compressor psi needed?

i have 4 side feed guns they are total hell to clean ! the good is they still feed material even at strange angles . a top or gravity feed is the easiest to clean .

just check the CFM of what the gun needs and what the compressor puts out . most all small compressors will work with a mini gun .

I guess, i should of ask before trying it myself. It came out exactly like 962 stated "much lighter in shade" no matter how thick you try to lay it on.

What would be a good mini gun ?
